So many people come across this problem when the iPhone stops charging. This can happen due to so many reasons so you can do a couple of things before taking it to a phone repair shop and letting them rip you off. Like I said earlier, you can do so many things at home as minor fixes before going to the shop.

We are going to explain these fixes step by step in this article. Try them one by one if you are facing the same issue.

Don’t replace the battery without doing the fixes

People’s first instinct while facing this issue is to replace the old battery with a new one. It’s a natural thing for people to do instead of spending time going through these fixes.

Please notice that most of the time when your iPhone is not charging, the issue is something related to the software side and not a problem with your battery.

Fix 1: Figure out if its a battery issue

So, the first thing you could do if you have an iPhone 8 or later is to check charing via the Wireless charger. Try charging via the Qi charger and if it’s charging normally, then you can rule out the factor that the battery has a problem and needs to be replaced.

We have successfully isolated the problem of battery problem by easily charing via Wireless charger.

Obviously, this is not a way to fix the original problem, but it’s a step in the right direction. Now, that we have isolated the issue, follow the steps below the see if the fixes are working properly.

Fix 2: 1. Hard Reset Your iPhone

A simple reset could actually fix the charging issue right away. A hard reset is not harmful and there is no downside to doing it if you have a charging issue. This is how you can reset the iPhone.

If you have an iPhone 6S or earlier, press and hold the Power button and the Home button at the same time and keep doing that until the Apple Logo appears and once you are there, let go of those two buttons.

In case if you have an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, press and hold the power button and the volume button at the same time until the Apple Logo appears and once it appears, let go of those two buttons.

Now, if you have iPhone 8 or newer models, press the volume button (anyone of the two) and also the power button at the same time and hold them together until the power off screen appears. Now slide over the slide to power off the slider.

Fix 3: Check if Charger is Damaged

The next thing to do is to check if the charger is damaged. So, the easy way to do this is to check to charge it with another phone. If it works then you can rule out whether the charger is working or not.

In case if the charger is not working on another phone as well. Then the whole problem comes to the charger and not the phone at all. You can repair the charger if you want but I don’t think anybody is going to do that because people just buy a new one.

Now, that you have isolated that it’s the charger issue best fix you can do from your side is to clean the charging ports in the cable. That should fix the issue or else it’s better to get a new one.

Fix 4: Clean the Charging Port

Now, this is a crucial one. The charging port in your iPhone is open all the time and in time it gets accumulated with dust. You can use an ear cleaner or a toothpick with some cotton in it.

Please don’t put a lot of pressure because it’s not that hard to break charging ports. I have seen videos of charging ports with so much dirt inside them. So, removing them can easily fix the problem you are facing.

Even if it’s still not working, you will have to take it to the repair.

Fix 5: Take it for Repair

Now, that you have exhausted all the options and fixes that you could do from the home to fix the charging problem, now the only thing you could do is to take it to the repair shop.

Now, charging issues are mostly port-related so it shouldn’t cost you much to get it fixed. It’s a good idea to get a second opinion from other places about the issue and even the cost. Obviously authorized service centers are going to cost a lot.

You could check with third-party vendors to see how much it would cost because the fix shouldn’t even take a couple of minutes.

Now, these are the things you could do to fix the iPhone charging problem at home before taking it to the service center.
