How to send Disappearing WhatsApp Messages

WhatsApp introduced Disappearing messages where all the messages you send will automatically gets deleted, when you don't want to have your conversations stored on your phone you can enable this option. Enabling Disappearing messages will also vanish the media files that you share each other this will help you prevent the media storage problem.

Steps to Enable Disappearing Messages

Currently, the Disappearing messages feature is only available for the Beta users, you can join as a beta user and try this or you can wait for a few more days to get this for public use. Below are some points to know before enabling the Disappearing Message feature.

  • Messages Disappear only after 7 days (default) You can't change the expiry date for any text or Media, you have to wait for 7 days to get the messages to disappear.
  • Your contacts can still take screenshots of the messages that you have spent and keep that beyond 7 days, they can also forward that to some other contact and have it without disappearing.
  • You can disable this feature anytime on the phone or web.

1. On WhatsApp Mobile App

Once you know you have the WhatsApp version with the disappearing messages on your Android mobile or iPhone, follow the below steps.

  1. Open WhatsApp and choose a contact
  2. Now click on the Contact's Name
  3. You'll see Disappearing Messages
  4. Click on Disappearing Messages and Choose ON.

Once the Disappearing Messages option turns ON you can see a timer icon near the contact's display picture.

Note: Enabling Disappear message option to a contact will only enable the feature for that contact, you have to follow the same procedure to other contacts to make them disappear too.

2. On WhatsApp Web (PC)

To Turn the Disappearing Messages feature On on the web version you should have the mobile version with disappearing message updated.

  1. Open WhatsApp Web and choose a contact
  2. Now click on the Contact's Name
  3. You'll see Disappearing Messages
  4. Click on Disappearing Messages and Choose ON.

Here also you can see the timer icon with the Display picture.
