History

Arianna Huffington founded the Huffington Post on the 9th of May, 2005. She was the editor-in-chief of the website from its inception until August 2016. The post was succeeded officially by Lydia Polgreen, who was formerly the editor of ‘The New York Times.’ Polgreen announced in April 2017, that the company would be rebranded and its name changed to HuffPost with significant changes made to the logo, design, reporting, and content of the website. ’ FundRace is another website of Huffington Post that tracks the contributions to presidential campaigns.

Kate Middleton and ‘Duchess of Cambridge’ announced on the 4th of February,2016 that they would guest edit an article series as part of the partnership for improving and better understanding the mental issues that affect the young people. Huffington Post announced a partnership with the ‘American Sleep Association’ on the 9th of April, 2016 for increasing the importance and the awareness of sleep and the dangers related to sleep disorders.

Huffington has an active community and receives millions of posts on its site every month.

The columnists Arianna Huffington, Bernie Sanders, John Conyers, Jeff Pollack, Leonard Kim, Harry Shearer, and Roy Sekoff provide their columns in Huffington Post. The website has many bloggers from celebrities, politicians, policy experts to academics. Craig Taro Gold, the spiritual author and the health expert Jeff Halevy contributes to the HuffPost website. The site even features columns by the specialists, such as Anand Reddi, Cenk Uygur on the international health issues, Alice Waters who writes on food, Harold Katz on the dental health, Phil Radford and Frances Beinecke on the environment and climatic change. There are other columnists who write on politics and business such as Auren Hoffmen; medicine like John Lapook; child psychiatry like Nancy Rappaport etc.

Huffington Post formed a collaboration between ‘NewAssignment.net’ by Jay Rosen and the New York University to form an online organization for news, known as ‘OffTheBus.’

Huffington Post has bagged several awards as follows:

  • Pulitzer Prize: It won the prize in 2012 for the national reporting of the senior military David Wood’s series about the wounded veterans, known as ‘Beyond the Battle.’
  • People’s Voice Winner: In the 14th Webby Awards, Huffington won the ‘People’s Voice Winner’ in 2010.
  • Peabody Award: It won this award for ‘Trafficked’ in 2010, which is  a ‘Youth Radio Investigation.’
  • Webby Awards: The Company won this award on 2006 and 2007 for the ‘Best Blogs in Politics.’
  • Responsible Media of Year: The Huffington Post in 2015 was nominated for this award at the ‘British Museum Awards.’
